We spend so much time stressing about things we literally have zero control over. Our favorite sports team. A show we’re invested in. A person’s decision. The outcome of something that is already in motion. We get caught up, we overthink, and before we know it, our mood is wrecked over something that doesn’t actually affect our real life.
Here’s the truth:
If you can’t control it, why let it control you?
This is why stoicism is an important philosophy that I believe everyone can learn from. It is all about focusing your energy on what’s actually within your power. Your actions. Your habits. Your responses. Your mindset. Everything else? You let it go. Not because you don’t care, but because caring about things you can’t change is a guaranteed path to frustration.
Ask yourself:
Is this thing I’m stressing over hurting me?
Is it making me sick?
Is it actually changing the course of my life?
Short answer…. probably not.
But overthinking about things outside your control can do those things. It will drain you, distract you, and slowly take control over you if you let it.
So focus on what you can do today.
Do your best with the actions that are yours to take.
That’s all any of us can do, and honestly, it’s all that really matters.
I hope this resonates with you.
Let go of what doesn’t serve your well-being.
Stop giving your peace away to things that were never yours to manage in the first place.
Thank you for reading (: and take a deep breath. You’re okay.
